MGM have once again proved why they are the best in entertainment, dining and nightlife in Las Vegas. MGM has come up with a magnificent strategy aimed at luring top artists to its Monte Carlo Casino-Hotel. MGM Resorts International is building a 5,300-seat Theater at a cost of $100 million inside its Monte Carlo Casino-Hotel. The 5,300-seat Theater comes after their arena project. You would think they would stop right after the 20,000-seat arena but no! Mark you, the arena is still under construction! The Las Vegas Strip is filled with MGM properties, including the Monte Carlo. However, MGM claims it is their least recognizable asset; hence, it has to be overhauled and maybe renamed.

There are multiple venues in Las Vegas that MGM uses to offer concerts, sporting events, boxing matches, and Cirque du Soleil shows. One can only imagine the impact the 5,300-seat Theater will have on its business. Unlike it’s other venues, this new Theater will lure artists to anchor greater lengths of performances. The current venues differ in size in that they are either too small or too large. Bill Hornbuckle, the MGM Resorts president, was heard commenting on this new project. Bill said this kind of scale is what is needed. He was also heard comparing it to Caesars Palace, another hotel and casino found in the heart of Las Vegas.

Caesars Palace is home to The Colosseum, where artists like Elton John and Celine Dione have electrified crowds. The MGM Theater will be approximately 1,000 seats larger than The Colosseum. The president was heard saying MGM Resorts hopes to use the larger arena to offer shows by an artist in the course of a weekend or two. It is to be followed by an extended stay, maybe ten weekends, in the 5,300-seat Theater. Also, possibly, the production may visit other properties owned by MGM in the Asian-enclave of Macau and Maryland. The 5,300-seat Theater will be part of MGM’s rustic (outdoor) entertainment development referred to as The Park, located between the Monte Carlo and New York – New York Hotel and Casino.

Early August, the Clark County commissioners will review the newest proposed venue by MGM. The 5,300-seat Theater is set to open by the end of next year, 2016. It will take place months after the debut of the 20,000-seat arena. There is a close resemblance between the AEG L.A and this outdoor development consisting of the Theater, arena, and planned retail projects all next to MGM’s hotels. In fact, Bill says this is where MGM got the idea for the location of the 5,300-seat Theater. Other than being involved in booking artists at The Colosseum, AEG has also partnered with MGM in building its 20,000-seat arena. The 5,300-seat Theater is set to bump the Blue Man Group to the Luxor’s 800-seat venue where their Las Vegas dreams became a reality from the Monte Carlo’s 1,200-seat Theater set for wrecking. It is with this move to the Luxor that the Blue Man Group got their contract extended through 2025. The dance troupe, Jabbawockeez opened at the MGM Grand, and that is where they will be shifting to, from the Luxor.
